Fukuoka city’s ridiculous policy to close down the most popular street food stand

Fukuoka city, the biggest city in Kyushu island, is famous as a place of gastronomy. Among its popular original foods, its street food stand is outstanding. Now, the most famous street food stand is in the crisis of survival due to a stupid bureaucratic policy.

Kajishika(かじしか) is the most famous street food stand in Fukuoka city. The small restaurant with only 12 sheets accepts reservations for after 9 p.m.

It attracts many tourists and Fukuoka residents by its delicious cuisines the quality of which is way beyond the standard of typical street food stands in the city. The average budget for this place is only JPY5,000.

Green onions rolled with a sliced pork is popular to its frequent guests. The green onion is a special crop of the region. You would be fascinated by the nice flavor and juicy taste.

Balloon fish is also one of the special fishery products in the region. The very expensive fish is famous for its rich taste with less fat. Kajishika grills the fish in rare condition and serve it with its special citron soy sauce, as called ponzu in Japanese.

I could not imagine that such a high quality food can be served in such a shabby street food stand. This is why this stand is very popular and becomes one of the difficult-to-make-a-reservation restaurants in this city.

Now it faces a crisis of survival. Fukuoka city launched a policy to review the licence of the operation of street food stand in the city. Some of the licences will be expired and the stands of which licence is expired need to apply for the licence from the scratch.

By the city’s bureaucratic criteria of the selection, Kajishika is disqualified even though the restaurant contributed amazingly to the city’s revenue from the inbound tourists.

Unless the regulation is exempted by a special order, the licence for the restaurant will be expired in the end of this March and it will be forced to closed down.

Such a policy is really stupid. This blog claims for the review of the city’s ridiculous judgement and calls for the support for the nice restaurant.

This blog believes that Kajishika is Fukuoka city’s important asset which will contribute to the city’s prosperous future as it did in the past.
